About BOUYOU
Boyo Jichikai is a residential area in an inverted L-shape that spreads across the hills south of Yamate Station on the JR Negishi Line in Naka Ward, Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture.
This area was once a semi-agricultural, semi-fishing village, but in the Meiji era, Western-style buildings were built by Europeans who came to Japan. YC&AC, located almost in the center of the town, is a legacy of the town's long history of international exchange.
After World War II, many American military personnel lived in the town and the surrounding area with their families. The vast site is now a mountaintop park that brings rest and color to our lives.
Currently, our neighborhood association, which has about 750 households as members, continues to change little by little while preserving the memory of history.
History of the Boyo Community Association
Establishment of the Neighborhood Association
The neighborhood association was established in December 1951 under the leadership of its first chairman, Junzo Fukano. In the same year, legal restrictions were lifted with the signing of the San Francisco Peace Treaty, and local organizations such as fire and crime prevention associations began to form again in each town in Japan. Our neighborhood association seized this opportunity and was established early, without waiting until 1956, when the city began to promote neighborhood association organizations. However,
looking back in history, the town had a system of self-governance in place before World War II.

The plan and design was done by architect Shinichi Sunaga, a member of our neighborhood association.
Connection with YC&AC
Located at the top of a hill almost in the center of Boyo Jichikai, the YC&AC moved from Yokohama Park (now Yokohama Stadium) to its current location (Yaguchidai) in 1912. It is the oldest members-only sports club in Japan, dating back to the Meiji era, and still has members of various nationalities. The club co-hosts seasonal Boyo Jichikai events on its vast grounds, which can host official soccer, rugby and other matches. In particular, the summer International Friendship Bon Odori festival, which began in 1977, has been held at the YC&AC grounds since the first event, and will soon be half a century old. This seems to have been the catalyst for deepening the relationship between Boyo Jichikai and the YC&AC.
